My Career PSA
2025 is coming to an end, and as I reflect on the themes of this year, there's one piece of advice I feel compelled to share.
It’s not something career coaches are “supposed” to say. (Arguably not great for sales!) But it’s true.
Job seekers often treat the search like a treasure hunt. That if they only look hard enough and in the right places, they’ll uncover that hidden role that will unlock a happy, fulfilling life.
But here’s the real-talk: The biggest driver of happiness isn’t your job. It’s your relationships.
This isn't my opinion. It's fact! According to the world's longest scientific study of happiness, the frequency and quality of contact with others are the two major predictors of happiness.
So if you’ve been carrying the pressure to find a job that will make everything in your life feel aligned… you can let that shit go. That’s not where happiness comes from.
The real treasure is your people. Inside of work and outside of it. (Which is exactly why I'm so preachy about prioritizing a good manager over your next title or cause!)
So if you want to recalibrate for the year ahead, I have a resource that’s worth your time. I’m naming The Good Life my inaugural Changemaker Careers Book of the Year for 2025 - because of all the mindset shifts, this is the one that matters most.
I'm so grateful for you all and for your commitment to making the world a better place. It's been an honor building this community together and I look forward to seeing you again in 2026.
In solidarity,
Katie
