"I should already know where my career is going."
If that belief has ever quietly followed you around, I'm right there with you.
And of course you feel that way. As a social impact professional, you're navigating career paths that are rarely linear, chronically underfunded, and constantly shifting. Entire sectors like international development have collapsed. On top of all that, you might not even have a specific role in mind - you might just want work that supports a decent quality of life. And as you grow and change, what you want from a career does too.
Here's a reframe to ground you: Forget climbing a career ladder - you're rock climbing. And you can't push off towards your next move until you feel confident about where you're at now.
So take five minutes to reflect. What's working in your work/life ecosystem? What do you want more of? Less of? (If you're currently between jobs, apply this to both unemployment and your most recent role.) Then narrow down that list into three non-negotiables for your next opportunity. Not a wish list - three things you absolutely won't compromise on.
This reflection will help you figure out your next steps. You already have what you need to find solid footing. 💖 ⛰️
